Well yeah. If they showed their faces they might be murdered by people who sympathized with Hussein. It's to protect them from the world basically. They will be seen by practically everyone and so they're are people out there who would kill the people who killed Hussein. So basically, they are protecting themselves by protecting their identity. They would be crazy not to.

Covering the face of the executioner is a centuries old custom.
My question is what kind of person would take that job in any society?
i'm pretty sure all executioners id are kept from the public, even here in the US. Usually, the person throwing the switch is kept secret.
It was so that no one would reconize who they are cause if that happen, they could be killed for exucuting saddam so I understand why they did.
