It isn't safe to use gaseous chlorine, Cl2. Other chlorine compounds, however, such as hypochlorite, are moderately safe to use because the compound has different chemical properties.Why is it safe to use compounds like chlorine without a gas mask?
i think its because chlorine is much denser than air.
