Do I have to wear a mask on the airplane?

I'm going to NY in June and since the swine flu has begun, will the airport have every one going somewhere wear a mask to protect themselves by people who may have the flu?Do I have to wear a mask on the airplane?
Have you thought about looking at it rationally rather than emotionally?

If you do you will release this is all overkillDo I have to wear a mask on the airplane?
The people who should wear masks are those who are sick, not those who are healthy, at least outside hospital settings.

A mask on a sick person helps prevent the spread of germs. Some germs escape from the mask, but a great many are stopped, so a mask on a sick person is quite useful.

A mask on a healthy person is much less useful. Any germs the person encounters are likely to be floating around at random, and might get past the mask through small openings, unless it's completely airtight, so the mask for the healthy person is not cost-effective unless the air is truly filled with germs (as it might be in a hospital room).

Airplanes have good ventilation. Most of the air comes from the outside, where there are no germs at all, and the portion of air that is recirculated is passed through very high efficiency HEPA-style filters. Additionally, the air in airplanes circulates vertically, not horizontally (in most airliners), meaning that you can only catch something from someone sitting very near your seat, not from people in other parts of the plane.

It should also be kept in mind that virtually all the concern over swine flu is media hype. It happens every time a new kind of flu appears. Most people recover from the flu, even the swine flu. It's a week of being miserable followed by a return to health. Swine flu is a bit more severe than most types of flu, and fewer people are immune to it, so it makes people more miserable, and a slightly higher number of people die from it, if they are in a weak condition. But the fact remains that just about everyone survives the flu, even bad versions of the flu like swine flu.
this whole swine flu has been blown way out of proportion.

no you do not have to wear a face mask.

just continue what you do every day. proper hygiene (i hope you do) like washing hands, covering sneezes and coughs with hands and washing afterward, not being around sick people.

its really common sense things

people die from the regular flu every day. and if you think about the millions of people that are in the unite states and the number of people who actually contracted the swine flu, is really nothing.
Ok well first thing, those plastic masks don't work. The filtered ones do though. And I don't think that the Airplane would make you do that! However the said on yahoo.com that the alert as become lower. Oh ya, it might not be a great idea to go to New York right now because most of the cases with people having the swine flu had it in NY. But still, when you go wash your hands a lot and don't touch your face! =D
NO- i actually just got home from the airport. I only saw one person wearing one. Listen. Last year- 35,000 people died from the normal Flu virus, how come thats not being reported on the news? Because it happens every year- the swine flu has not killed a single american, and has killed SEVEN people in Mexico. So try not to worry so much- just wash ur hands like normal and live your life!
Why is everybody so concerned about the swine flu? The only people who have died are Mexicans because they have inadequate health care. Stop worrying about the swine flu, and that goes for everyone.
No. Those masks really don't do much. The way most people contract the flu is by touching something that has the virus and touching their mouth or eyes. Washing hands is a must, just like with regular influenza.
currently, it doesnt seem that it will get to that point, but i think its best of you had a couple on hand just in case. you dont need to wear them, but at least have them with you
no. just be aware of the people around you. don't touch your face, bring hand sanitizer (as dorky as it sounds) and wash your hands as much as possible without looking like a complete germaphobe.
In June everybody will be dead....
Most likely not, but a month from now it might have transmitted to far more people
bring one i case and ask them before bording
in june the swine flu might be so bad you might have to but right now you do not
No, most likely not. But who knows what might happen in June.
Ummm... no I would not but you could if you really really wanted to. And people would not really have them on.
Idk ask
Why on earth would you do that?
yeah i think you really should. just to stay on the safe side = ]
